The Nanny Diaries Movie Discussion

• As usual,all of us gathered at the library
• Taufiq as our group leader gave some reviews about the plot of The Nanny Diaries.
• Then,he conducted a discussion to review about the movie that we have watched before,The Nanny Diaries.
• We discuss about our feelings,main events happened and the character that each of us like the most.
• Everyone had different reviews about the movie and we answered the guided questions successfully.

• What is the story about?

21-year-old Annie Braddock (Scarlett Johansson), has just graduated from Montclair State University. Annie has no idea what or who she wants to be. One day, while sitting at the park, Annie sees a young boy about to be hit by a vehicle. Annie saves him and meets the boy's mother, Mrs. Alexandra X (Laura Linney). When she introduces herself as "Annie", Mrs. X mistakes her words for "Nanny" and hires her to look after Grayer, the boy she saved. Annie lies to her mother about taking a job at a bank and, in reality, moves in with the X's to be the nanny for Grayer.

Life with the incredibly privileged X's isn't what she thought it would be, and her life is complicated further when she falls for "Harvard Hottie" (Chris Evans), who lives in the building. Annie begins to notice that not only is Grayer being neglected, but so is Mrs. X, with Mr. X committing subtly obvious adultery and not treating her like a proper wife. Things turn for the worse when she gets fired, and in her rage, she looks for and finds the 'nanny cam' in the X's house and records her feelings toward the X's. Mrs. X brings the tape to the school meeting for the East side wives. Thinking that the tape will show Annie feeding Grayer peanut butter and jelly, she requests the coordinator to play it for everyone to see. All other parents in the room hear as Annie reveals the real relationship between the X's.

However, Annie does not stop seeing "Harvard Hottie", whose real name is Hayden. A few months later, Hayden hands her a letter from Alexandra X. Written in the letter is an apology and news about how Alexandra left Mr. X, Grayer's improvement and how Annie changed her life. This leads to a happier ending for all.

Teenagers is a group of people would like to watch this comedy and romance genre film.

• Do you like this movie? Why or why not?

No,I don't like this movie.I dislike this movie because Mr. X is a cheating husband.Mr.X is unfaithful to her control-freak wife,Mrs.X.He does not paying attention to his wife and son.Mr. X committing subtly obvious adultery and not treating her like a proper wife. In the result, his wife, Mrs. X wants to divorce.

• What rating would you give for this movie?

• What spoilers would ruin this movie if you told your readers about it?

Annie overheard the conversation between Mrs. X and her friend. Mrs. X told her friend that she installed a nanny camera in the house to keep an eye on her.At last, Annie knew that the nanny camera was hidden in a teddy bear.

• All movies teach a lesson (theme or moral). What did you learn from this movie?

We should put children and family first.Mr X is occupied with his business as he does not paying attention to family.not only is Grayer being neglected, but so is Mrs. X, with Mr. X committing subtly obvious adultery and not treating her like a proper wife. Mr.X is also a cheating husband.

"Family first,family forever"

Brave Movie Discussion Session

• We discuss about our feelings,main events happened and the character that each of us like the most.
• Everyone had different reviews about the movie and we answered the guided questions successfully.

• What is the story about?

   A young princess named Merida of the clan Dunbroch is given a longbow by her father, King Fergus, for her birthday, to her mother Queen Elinor's dismay. While practicing, Merida ventures into the woods to fetch a stray arrow, where she encounters a will-o'-the-wisp. Soon afterwards, Mor'du, a giant demon-bear, attacks the family. Merida escapes on horseback with Elinor, while Fergus fights off the bear at the cost of his left leg. 

  Years later, Merida is now a free-spirited, headstrong girl with much younger identical triplet brothers, Hamish, Huburt, and Harris. Elinor informs her that she is to be betrothed to one of her father's allied clans. Reminding Merida of a legend about a prince who had ruined his own kingdom by pride and refusal to follow his father's wishes, Elinor warns her that failure to consent to the marriage could harm Dunbroch, but Merida is still dissatisfied with the arrangement.

  Rival clans arrive with their firstborn sons to compete in the Highland Games for Merida's hand in marriage. Merida, twisting the rules, announces she is eligible to compete for her own hand as the first-born of Clan Dunbroch and defeats each of her suitors in an archery contest, shaming the other clans. Merida's actions cause an argument with Elinor and she leaves. 

In the forest, Merida follows the wisps to the hut of an elderly witch .Merida agrees to purchase all her carvings, the witch agrees to give Merida an enchanted cake to change her mother's mind.

  Merida returns to the castle and gives Elinor the cake, which magically transforms her into a black bear. Realizing that she has made matters worse for herself, Merida returns with Elinor, who still retains most of her human personality, to the witch's cottage but finds only a message left behind. They learn that unless Merida is able to "mend the bond torn by pride" before the second sunrise, the spell will become permanent.   The two are led by the wisps to ancient ruins, where they encounter Mor'du, whom Merida discovers was once the power-mad prince in Elinor's legend, under a similar transformation spell. Merida vows to her mother that she will not let her become a wild animal like Mor'du, and theorizes that she can reverse the spell by repairing the tapestry she damaged earlier

 At the castle, the clans are on the verge of war, but Merida interrupts their fighting and states that the children should be allowed to get married in their own time to whomever they choose. Merida then sneaks into the tapestry room with Elinor. Elinor, who is losing control of her human self, attacks Fergus, but suddenly regains her human consciousness and races out of the castle. Fergus, thinking that the queen was killed by Mor'du, pursues the bear with the other clans. With the help of her brothers, who have also eaten the enchanted cake and transformed into bear cubs, Merida rides after her father while simultaneously sewing up the tapestry. The clan members and Fergus capture Elinor, but Merida intervenes, just before Mor'du appears and attacks.

  A battle ensues, with Mor'du scattering the clan warriors and almost killing Merida. Elinor intervenes, using the strength of her bear form to hold off Mor'du long enough for him to be crushed by a falling menhir, which releases the prince's spirit. Before departing to the afterlife, he silently thanks Merida for finally freeing him from himself.

   At the second sunrise, Merida realizes the true meaning of the witch's riddle, and reconciles with her mother. The queen is transformed back to her human form along with the triplets, and the family is happily reunited. A few days later, Merida and Elinor are working together to sew a new tapestry of Merida, and Elinor as a bear, when they are called to the docks to bid farewell to the other clan lords. They then ride their horses across Scotland together with a renewed mother-daughter bond.

All group of people which are children,teenagers,adults and old folks would like to watch the movie as this animation movie is appropriate for all ages.

After the movie

• Do you like this movie? Why or why not?

Yes,I like the movie.This movie shows a strong mother-daughter bond which cannot be broken.Merida realized that she has made matters worse for herself after gave the cake to her mother.She felt guilty because the cake magically transformed her mother into a black bear.

Merida tried many ways to reverse the spell.

 After that,Elinor intervened, using the strength of her bear form to hold off Mor'du long enough for him to be crushed by a falling menhir, which releases the prince's spirit because Mor'du almost killing Merida when scattering the clan warriors.

 At the second sunrise, Merida realizes the true meaning of the witch's riddle, and reconciles with her mother.

Merida completely believed that the witch will give her an enchanted cake to change her mother's mind but the cake magically transformed her mother,Elinor into a black bear.Merida realized that she had made matters worse for herself.

• All movies teach a lesson (theme or moral). What did you learn from this movie?

 Mother-daughter bond last forever.At first,Merida dissatisfied a lot with her mother,Queen Elinor.After all conflicts happened,they then ride their horses across Scotland together with a renewed mother-daughter bond.

• What title would you give for your review?

 Mother love last forever.
